Fecha 13, hit the preview

Unlucky 13? Bound to be for some in the unpredictable world of Argieball. Here’s this weekend’s preview

Newell’s (finally) won their 2nd game of the Clausura last week but they’re largely a pathetic outfit so the win (whilst overdue) was a surprise. Also a surprise was a) the fact that Godoy Cruz are 3rd but b) that they should be 2nd as there’s no way they should be losing 4-1 at home to Arsenal. Shocking result really. As I’ve said here:

http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2995/betting/2011/05/06/2474007/goals-forecast-between-newells-old-boys-and-godoy-cruz-in-bet-of-

there should be goals with 2 of the worst defences in the league. In terms of the result I’d favour Godoy Cruz and their price is certainly value.

Quilmes should beat Gimnasia next up in a relegation 12-pointer (long story) as their form has recently picked up, thanks no doubt to the barely sane but fairly talented Caruso Lombardi who now manages the Brewers. As a sidenote I wish you could get Quilmes easily over here. *sigh*

Olimpo to win at Huracan? Yeah probably. Huracan won’t win this game, they’ve lost 4 of their last 5 and being honest, not against the toughest of opposition. Limper than Graham Norton’s wrist.

The next game is one of those that’s bloody hard to predict. Tigre host Colon. I’ll talk about either of them, chuck in some stats and you can make your own prediction (although I’ll probs chuck one in too).

Tigre – Top scorer in the league (Stracqudlfhkabeqocursi) and they’re just a mid-table side. Mid-table in the form table, in the home table, in the overall table. Won 4, drawn 4, lost 4. GD -1.

Colon – a point ahead of Tigre but big stat is that if the league was done on just away games, they’d be top. And they’ve played a game less. Yeah, I know. They rely heavily on Fuertes’ ageing legs. Form is similar to Tigre’s.

So what do you say to that? I’ll call it a draw, Colon’s away record is bloody remarkable but I just love Stracqua. In betting terms though, Colon should be nowhere near 3.4 given their away form.

Racing go to Arsenal in what is a mini-clasico. Racing are the better outfit but inconsistent (and arguably at the butt of some awful decision), Arsenal broke a 7-game winless streak last time out with a 4-1 spanking of Godoy Cruz. Obolo, Leguizamon, Caffa; they have the players to cause problems and their fans will be bang up for it but I struggle to see them winning this. Odds wise, I’d hit up the Racing DNB.

Lanus would be top if the league only counted home games. There’s a fact for you. They play at home this week, but face an intriguing battle. Estudiantes found themselves dumped out the title race in embarrassing fashion last weekend and then eliminated from the Libertadores on penalties late last night. All in all, a bad week. Oh, what’s that? Veron is injured and might need surgery? Oh, they’re in trouble.

Nothing like the side that were like an express train under Sabella in the apertura, Berizzo struggled to get anything right in honesty. They still have the players though, Fernandez, Perez, Braña and Desabato are some the best in their positions in Argentina but they will be tired from a hard week. Take your pick on this one but I’ve gone with Lanus, mystic Dan of Argentina football world went with a draw. Few would fancy the Pincha for this one.

Argentinos vs Boca I am leaving alone. I haven’t seen much AAJJ stuff recently to be honest but they’re pretty good defensively (very good actually) and good at home. Boca are all over the gaff this season under Falcioni and too hard to predict. Riquelme will play in a vital game before the Superclasico and that is the key to this match, whether Boca are up for it to show their stuff before the hugest game in their year or if it’s a case of thoughts elsewhere.

River will beat All Boys, they may not spank them but they will win. NEXT.

I fancy San Lore at Independiente. That’s about it, just a hunch based on them being a superior side with better players. The Rojo are all over the shop but rarely are they the good unpredictable, more often they’re just woeful.

Velez should whip out their junk and hose down Banfield but after a long trip to Quito and a couple of injuries (Moralez was taken off in Ecuador and Silva probably won’t play) I think the boys from the South could nick a point. A couple of decent players are Achucarro, Garcia and Ferreyra; the latter linked with Juve today (check MundoAlbiceleste for more details). Velez may win, but if you’re betting then there’s no value.

So that’s that. If you hated it then draw a horrible picture of me on a piece of paper and pop it in a postbox. If you liked it then tell me so I feel all happy 🙂
